Rationale or Purpose for Teaching:
In this unit students will engage in research to learn about public issues such as health care and the environment, and entitlements such as Social Security. Research will also be involved in learning about regulatory agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, and the Federal Aviation Administration. The issue of immigration will be studied. Students will learn about the function of the Federal Reserve System and how it impacts their own economic situation. This unit will also provide students with an opportunity to investigate contemporary social, economic, environmental, and governmental issues from a national and international perspective.
