Role of the Media
Objectives:
- Students will identify the different types of political advertisements (card stacking, contrast, glittering generalities, mudslinging, plain folks, testimonial, and transfer) in order to describe the role of the media in American politics in influencing voter/public opinion.
- Students identify possible consequences, both intended and unintended, of political advertisements in order to describe the role of the media in American politics.
- Students will list the many ways that commercials are used to influence the electorate in order to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of media involvement in American politics.
- Students will be able to construct a political advertisement of their own in order to illustrate the role of the media involvement in election politics using graphics and logos representative of media tactics used to persuade voters.
